Roamler

As we head towards a ‘gig economy’ roamler seems to be in the perfect position to be top dog for getting people small amounts of work at a time. A little bit different to sites like MTurk and Clickworker, roamler wants you to physically go out there are do tasks (though there are a few digital ones as well!)

What do you need?

You need to sign up on their website. Provide all the usual details and once you have activated your account you can download the roamler app.

The roamler app will provide you with training and also a daily set of tasks that are available in your area.

Just like any job – you will need to complete training before roamler will let you loose completing jobs for them.

What are the tasks like?

These are mostly physical tasks such as checking berries or lightbulbs in your local supermarket. The tasks can be very specific and involved in a lightbulb task I had to identify the brands that were there, if there were special offers, take photos of the gondolas and displays etc.

Some tasks involve you fixing displays of items in supermarkets, front facing items and asking the supermarket staff if there is any more stock in the back to ensure the product looks fully stocked.

These are generally tasks that companies would pay someone to do, go round and ensure everything looks good in stores etc. To save money they are getting local people to do the tasks instead.

You can also get mystery shopper tasks where you go and buy a product then rate the service when you ask the server various questions.

How much can I earn?

The tasks can be very well paid. For example a mystery shopper task to try a pint of Corona at a pub was £8 and similar to go and try some Ben & Jerrys ice cream.

There seems to be a fair few tasks every day when I check but this will depend on where you live and how many other roamler’s there are in the local area!

Is it worth doing?

This could be a worth while side gig for a number of people but will certainly depend on the area you live in and who else is completing tasks in the local area. The payouts are generally not too bad £2 – £12 from my experience so if you are doing your shopping anyway and you spend 5 minutes completing a task in a supermarket it makes sense. Or if you are going into a town centre for something and there are a few tasks available, again it makes sense.

If you live in a remote area though there may be a few miles between tasks that might make it more difficult to get a decent rate of pay when you factor in travel time between sites so you certainly will need to work out your costs.

To keep in mind

The tasks do involve you going into shops and on some tasks you will have to liaise with the shop manger before going ahead. The shop manager may also not allow you to do the task so you won’t get paid out fully for the task.

Going into shops also brings risk at the present time with Corona Virus so this is something that you will need to weigh up.
